Frequently Asked Questions
-
Are diagnostic ultrasounds safe?Yes, a diagnostic ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging technique that utilizes sound waves to create detailed images of the body. Unlike imaging methods that use radiation, ultrasounds are considered risk-free and have been used in medical diagnostics for decades. They’re trusted tools for assessing various health conditions across different areas of care. At Nola Diagnostic Ultrasound, your safety and comfort are our top priorities. Our sonographer holds registries with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and is highly qualified in OB/GYN, abdominal, vascular, and pediatric imaging.

How do I properly prepare for my ultrasound? Each ultrasound type has different preparation requirements. For example, some scans may require a full bladder, while others may ask you to arrive with an empty one. You’ll receive service-specific prep instructions when scheduling your appointment.
-
What can I expect during my ultrasound appointment? What happens during your ultrasound varies depending on whether it’s abdominal or transvaginal. For abdominal scans, you’ll lie on an exam table while a clear, water-based gel is applied to your skin, and the transducer is moved across the area to capture real-time images. For transvaginal scans, a specialized transducer is used internally to provide a closer view of internal structures. The procedure is generally non-invasive and painless, though you may feel slight pressure at times. Once the scan is complete, the gel is wiped away, and you can return to your normal activities.
